Here at Modern Dentistry of New England, we believe that prevention is key to maintaining a healthy and beautiful smile. To help you avoid serious oral problems, Dr. Sherif Gabr utilizes Dexis® CariVu™ cavity detection technology. This small, hand-held tool can detect cavities in their early stages, allowing our dentist to treat your teeth early on and avoid major damage or discomfort. At our practice, our dentist and team work hard to help you maintain a healthy smile by detecting, diagnosing, and treating oral problems early on. CariVu™ by Dexis® is a small device that our dentist uses to detect cavities before they are even visible, thus providing early treatment and resulting in minimal damage to your teeth. The process of using CariVu is simple and painless. Our dentist will slip the CariVu device into your mouth, where it will “hug” each tooth, one by one, and envelop them in near-infrared light. This light causes the tooth enamel to appear transparent and any decay or lesions to appear as dark spots. Because the cavities and lesions absorb the light, our dentist can quickly target the specific areas of your tooth that need treatment. Utilizing CariVu cavity detection provides a large advantage when it comes to your oral health. This small yet powerful tool identifies cavities and other problems in their early stages. This means that you do not have to wait until your tooth starts hurting from large amounts of decay before getting the treatment it needs. By catching and treating tooth decay early on, our dentist can help you avoid many other problems that can arise when a tooth receives greater amounts of decay. Early treatment also helps you avoid more complex and expensive treatments that would be needed to treat more severely damaged teeth. CariVu is a great dental tool if you would prefer to not have X-rays taken of your mouth. If you are hesitant about X-rays because of the radiation they admit, we are happy to work with you. While our team utilizes digital X-rays, which emit significantly less radiation, the CariVu lets us accommodate your preferences and detect cavities without an X-ray. For more information, we invite you to call or visit our practice today!

Digital X-rays are used to produce high-quality images of your teeth and supporting structures. Our dentist then uses these images to carefully examine your mouth for any developing problems and quickly provide any treatments you may need.

Digital X-rays are one of the advanced diagnostic tools we use to provide you with the best possible care. Digital radiography has changed the way we take dental X-rays by making the process faster, more comfortable and more convenient than ever before. Digital X-rays use a digital sensor to take images of your teeth, unlike traditional X-rays that use film. Digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than conventional film X-rays and require the use of no chemicals for developing the images. Our dentist can then instantly view the high-quality images on monitors right in the treatment room to provide you with efficient, accurate diagnoses and care. Our team is able to use digital radiography to identify and diagnose several types of dental problems, such as:

  • Decay in between teeth
  • Developmental abnormalities
  • Improper tooth root positioning
  • Cysts and abscesses
  • Fractures in existing fillings
  • Tumors
  • Infection in the tooth nerves
  • Bone loss

Digital dental X-rays are used to plan many kinds of dental treatment, such as oral surgery procedures, root canal treatment, dental implants, orthodontics and more. To learn more about digital radiography and how we use X-rays at our office, we welcome you to call or visit us soon.

At Modern Dentistry of New England, our dentist and team use electric handpieces to perform procedures. Electric handpieces are easier to use and quieter, meaning you experience less discomfort and a quicker treatment. Your health and comfort are our top priorities. We are dedicated to providing you with a positive and enjoyable dental experience each time you visit our office. Our dental technology, including electric handpieces, assists us in providing you with the best possible dental care. Our dentist is proud to utilize electric handpieces to ensure that your dental visit is as comfortable and efficient as possible. Handpieces are used to remove the decayed and damaged portion of a tooth in preparation for a dental restoration, such as a dental crown or filling. There are two commonly used types of dental handpieces: electric handpieces and air-driven handpieces. Electric handpieces are driven by a motor, rather than compressed air, making them stronger than air-driven handpieces. Because electric handpieces are stronger, they allow our dentist to remove any decayed portions of your tooth at a faster rate, providing you with a shorter visit. Another benefit of electric handpieces is that they are quieter and smoother, so your treatment will be more comfortable and pleasant. We welcome you to contact our friendly dental office today to learn more about electric handpieces and how they can enhance your dental experience. We look forward to speaking with you soon!
Our dentist and team at Modern Dentistry of New England make infection control a top priority at our practice. We are committed to providing high-quality dental treatments in a clean and comfortable environment, and we strive to meet or exceed all OSHA standards. At our office, we follow the extensive infection control recommendations outlined by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In fact, we go above and beyond many of these requirements because we are dedicated to protecting your health and safety, as well as that of our team. These infection control and safety measures include:
  • Eye protection for patients and team members
  • Disinfectant hand soap
  • Gloves and face masks
  • Chemical disinfection of countertops and surfaces
  • Sterilization of all equipment before every use
In addition, our dental professionals sterilize all reusable equipment after each use, including handpieces. We use an autoclave, which is a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat, and pressure. When possible, we use disposable materials and tools to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination through reuse. Your health and comfort are our top priorities, and you can rest assured that we take all of the necessary steps to protect you and your family while you are with us. We welcome you to contact our office today to learn more about infection control and safety, and to schedule your next visit with our dentist. We look forward to caring for you!
Dr. Sherif Gabr uses a panoramic x-ray machine to capture images of your entire orofacial region. These high-quality images allow our dentist a better understanding of your oral health, and help to plan more intensive treatments. In order to provide you with the best possible dental care, it is essential that our dentist is able to accurately evaluate and diagnose your oral health. One of the state-of-the-art tools we use to do that is panoramic X-rays. While standard X-rays, called bitewing X-rays, provide us with a view of a few teeth and the supporting bone structure, panoramic X-rays allow us to view the full upper and lower dental arches in your mouth – including all of your teeth, your upper and lower jawbones, and your surrounding facial structures. Using panoramic X-rays, our dentist is able to:
  • Assess your need for orthodontics and evaluate the progress of treatment
  • Diagnose impacted wisdom teeth and other impacted teeth
  • Analyze the development of periodontal disease
  • Evaluate your TMJ (jaw joint) and diagnose a TMJ disorder
  • Detect oral cancer
  • Plan dental implant placement
  • Diagnose cavities (tooth decay) and other dental problems
  • Evaluate the extent of dental and/or facial trauma
  • Detect abscesses, cysts, and tumors
Using the panoramic X-ray machine is fast and comfortable. The machine simply rotates around your head and provides our dentist with high-definition, nearly instantaneous images that we can then use to evaluate your oral health. We invite you to call or visit us today to learn more about panoramic X-rays.
Modern Dentistry of New England features the Picasso light dental laser in Bristol, Connecticut, or West Hartford, Connecticut. This technology allows our dentist to perform a variety of laser dental treatments to help you maintain or regain a healthy smile. Laser dentistry involves the use of dental lasers to complete dental treatments more comfortably, quickly, and effectively. At our dental practice, we are dedicated to always providing you with the best possible dental care. Our dentist and dental team continuously update their education and our office to provide you with a more pleasant and efficient dental visit. We are proud to offer laser dental treatment to ensure that your dental experience is comfortable and positive. Lasers can be used for a number of dental treatments. During your visit, our dentist may recommend laser dentistry to:
  • Treat periodontal disease by removing bacteria and infected tissue
  • Cure (harden) a dental filling
  • Remove the decayed or damaged portion of a tooth
  • Speed up teeth whitening
  • Recontour the gum line
There are many benefits of laser dentistry. Many treatments completed with a dental laser are very comfortable and may not require the use of anesthetic. Dental lasers also shorten treatment time and healing time and decrease the risk of infection following treatment. In addition, lasers minimize bleeding both during and after treatment, and because they are very precise, we are able to treat the targeted area without affecting nearby healthy tissues.
